The Albanian Insurance Bureau is the administrator of the Compensation Fund, responsible for the payment of damages resulting from car accidents, caused by uninsured or unidentified vehicles.
The parties injured in a car accident within the territory of the Republic of Albania, caused by an uninsured or unidentified vehicle, have the right to compensation from the Albanian Insurance Bureau, namely the Compensation Fund.
Insurance companies, members of the Albanian Insurance Bureau, which operate in the territory of the Republic of Albania in compulsory motor insurance, are obliged to contribute annually financially to the compensation fund, in direct proportion to the gross written premiums. in these types of insurance, in the previous year.
Accident in Albania
In case of accident within the territory of the Republic of Albania, please follow the instructions below:
• In case the injured party (pedestrian, cyclist) has suffered an accident from an uninsured or unidentified motor vehicle, the claim for compensation is addressed directly to the Albanian Insurance Bureau.
• If the injured party is a passenger in the injured vehicle in an accidental event, insured with an insurance company, then the beneficiary party can contact the insurance company directly, although the Albanian Insurance Bureau is responsible in each case.
Attention *
Material damage caused by an unidentified motor vehicle is refused for compensation, based on article 30 of law no. 10076/2009 “On compulsory insurance in the transport sector”.
Obligation to be insured
The owner of each means of transport, before using the means of transport, is obliged to enter into an insurance contract, as well as to ensure its renewal as long as the means of transport will remain in circulation.
Owners of public passenger transport vehicles are obliged to enter into a contract for the insurance of passenger accidents on public transport.
Avoidance of the above obligation entitles the Albanian Insurance Bureau to reimburse from the responsible person (uninsured cause of the motor vehicle) the amount paid, expenses and interest.

The insurance contract enters into force at 24:00 on the day of termination of the contract and ends at 24:00 on the last day of the contract duration.
